Description
Olmesartan Medoxomil Tablets – OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL belongs to a group of medicines called antihypertensive medicines, which are mainly used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). High blood pressure is a chronic (long-term) condition in which the blood pressure has continuously risen to a higher-than-normal level. If left untreated, this condition can increase the risk of heart-related conditions such as heart attack, heart failure, stroke, irregular heartbeat, and other complications.
OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL contains olmesartan medoxomil, which is a prodrug and is hydrolyzed to olmesartan after absorption from the gastrointestinal tract. It is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that constricts blood vessels, raising blood pressure, so blocking angiotensin can cause constricted blood vessels to dilate. This effect allows the blood to flow more evenly in the blood vessels.
Uses Of Olmesartan Medoxomil Tablets
Olmesartan medoxomil is a medicine mainly used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children 6 years of age and older. It belongs to a class of medicines called angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs), which relax blood vessels and therefore lower blood pressure. Here are some of the more common uses for olmesartan medoxomil tablets:
- Hypertension Management: Olmesartan medoxomil is commonly prescribed to manage high blood pressure. It helps to prevent complications associated with hypertension such as heart attack, stroke, and kidney problems.

- Kidney Protection in Diabetes: In people with type 2 diabetes and hypertension, olmesartan medoxomil can help protect the kidneys from damage due to high blood pressure.
- Reducing the Risk of Stroke: Some studies suggest that ARBs like olmesartan medoxomil may help reduce the risk of stroke in certain individuals, particularly those with high blood pressure.
- Diabetic Nephropathy: It may be used in the treatment of diabetic nephropathy, a type of kidney disease that occurs in people with diabetes.
